Partnering with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Borah High School and community volunteers planted native willows, alder, aspen, red osier dogwood and lodge pole pine seedlings on the banks of the East Fork South Fork Salmon River at the site of the old Stibnite Mine in September 2004 and June 2005.
Restored native trees and shrubs will help to stabilize the soil and reduce sediment, improve water quality and ultimately improve spawning habitat for anadromous fish as well as habitat for other wildlife in the East Fork South Fork Salmon River as well as its tributary Meadow Creek. Check out Meadow Creek restoration and monitoring June 2005 to see more volunteer hands on habitat work.
